Obituary for CSM (Ret) Floyd Frank Walla Sr.

CSM (Ret.) Floyd Frank Walla, Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at his home in Indian Mound.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
The Walla Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Floyd was born in Craddock, VA on October 1, 1922. On December 7, 1941 after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Floyd was inspired to rise up along with countless others in the defense of our nation and join the U.S. Army. During WWII, Floyd served bravely in the African Theater, Sicily, Germany, and at the Battle of the Bulge. He also saw action in Korean War and Vietnam. During his Military career, he earned the rank of Command Sergeant Major and was the recipient of numerous awards and citations including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Commendation Service Medal, and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Walla; father, Louis Frank Walla; mother, Mary Bartos; step-mother, Anna Felter Walla; and siblings, Stella, Selma, Blanch, Eugene, and Elmer.
He is survived by his son, Butch Walla; daughters, Lorraine Walla and Nancy Walla; sister, Gladys (Jim) Donnely; grandchildren, Anna, Kelly, and Mike; and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, your local Humane Society, or your local church.
