Patsy entered into this life on July 15, 1939 in Montgomery County, TN daughter of the late Carney “Dink” and Bertha Rankhorn Hughes. She was a graduate of Montgomery Central High School. During her time there, she met the love of her life, William Douglas Black, Sr. In June of 1958, they were married by Bro. A.L. Thomas, the former pastor of Locust Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They had a son, William Douglas Black, Jr. in the winter of 1963. She was a lifelong member of Locust Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. During her lifelong membership she served in many ways and loved her church family and friends dearly. Patsy served as an Elder, the pianist for as long as anyone can remember, clerk, and the treasurer. She played the piano at many local churches, quartets, weddings and funerals when needed. She was Chairman of the Building Committee, VP of the women’s society, and past Boy Scout Leader. Patsy was employed with the Leaf Chronicle for several years. In 1966 she worked as a transcriptionist in medical records, and oral and maxillofacial Surgery Service for Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. She worked in that position for over forty-two years. During her time there she received numerous awards, citations, and plaques for her loyalty to the business. She was a former member of Palmyra Order of the Eastern Star, enjoyed playing the piano, yard work, working in hay, and her little four legged, Chihuahua companions, Trixie and Mitzie, and her cat. Patsy also took great pleasure in talking on the phone with her best friend from childhood, Betty Tidwell.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Doug Black, former Highway Supervisor.
Survivors include her son, William Douglas (Edie) Black, Jr.; grandson, Mack (Tabitha) Mangrum, and great-granddaughter, Brooke Mangrum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hosptial.
Pallbearers will be Mack Mangrum, Larry Jackson, Dan Field, Clayton Baggett, Dennis VanWormer, and Herbert Allen Jackson.
