Obituary for Joseph Bruce Downey "Papa"

Joseph Bruce Downey "Papa" age 91 of Clarksville, Tn. went to be with the Lord Monday, November 5, 2018 at his home of 63 years, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born August 29, 1927 in Pairs, Illinois to the late Bruce and Evelyn Murray Downey.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Beatrice Walton Downey and his brother Harvey Lewis Downey.
Joe is survived by his four children Dianne Wells, David (Jackie) Downey, Walt (Patty) Downey and Evelyn Perkowski; grandchildren, Dawn (Sid) Sawyer, Julie (Jesse) Wiseman, Jacob (Kayla) Downey, Katie Downey, Nicholas Perkowski, Tommie (Kenny) Herrin, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Joe moved to Clarksville, Tn. at the age of 14 and attended Clarksville High School. He married the love of his life Beatrice Walton after serving in WWII as a Navy Sailor in the South Pacific for two years. He was a life long member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Joe was the Training and Audio Visual Director of Ft. Campbell Ky. He retired after 35 years of Civil Service and received the Federal Employee of the year award in 1971. He was a Master Mason of the Queen City Lodge #761 for 62 years, served as chairman of Montgomery County School Board and a daily local at Cotterell’s Wagon Wheel.
Joe will be remembered as a doting husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend; who loved and loved deeply. He always put his family first and he will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 noon, Thursday, November 8, 2018 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Dr. Apelu Poe officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. November 7, 2018 and Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at the Funeral Home.
