Obituary for Elsia Mae Cooksey

Elsia Mae Cooksey was born August 5, 1941 in Cumberland City, TN, to the late Mr. Herbert W. and Lottie C. Powers.
She departed this life on Friday, September 14, 2018 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Elsia at an early age dedicated her life to Christ and became a member of Salem Chapel CME Church in Cumberland City. She was a member of little Rock Baptist Church for many years and she later became associated with St. Luke AME and Bread of Life.
She was the President of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 226 Erin, TN. She was a member of the Eastern Star White Lily, Chapter 42 Charolette, TN.
She had a various industrial positions until the time of retirement.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Donald Cooksey in 1962. To this union there four sons born. Jeff, Troy, Christopher Cooksey of Erin, TN; one stepson, John (Tina) Turner of Cumberland City TN; and Donnie E. Cooksey of Cumberland City, TN, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mary Evelyn Skelton, Clemmie B. Dunlap, Pearl L. Nelson, Earnestine Dunlap; two brothers, Croda W. Dunlap, James W. Dunlap; two sister-in-laws, Evelener Dunlap, Joanne Dunlap; one brother-in-law, Larry Tyler Sr. She also leaves to cherish her memory her spouse Donald Cooksey of Erin, TN; her four sisters, Emma (Dorris) Harris, Rebecca (Dwight) Woodard, and Patricia Tyler all of Dickson, TN; Hattie (Vernon) Cooksey of Clarksville, TN; three brothers, Eddie Dunlap, David (Linda) Dunlap of Cumberland City, TN; Kenneth (Bessie) Dunlap of Erin, TN; three grandsons, Eric Cooksey of Cumberland City, TN, Jaquan Cooksey of Texas, Kymani Cooksey of Erin, TN; three granddaughters, Jaquel Cooksey of Texas, Britteny Cooksey of Erin, TN, Erica Willis of Cumberland City, TN; one step granddaughter, Tanesha Turner of Cumberland City, TN, one great-granddaughter, and two great- grandsons. She also leaves behind three sister-in-laws, two brother –in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great great nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, and special family friends, Rebecca and prentice Skinner, Lisa Former, Bonnie Grace and Morgan Patterson.
Repass will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Little Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Preston officiating and with Elder Michael Thomas preforming the Eulogy. Interment will follow in Erin Community Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Turner, Larry Tyler Jr., Chad Williams, Danny Cooksey, Carnell Cooksey Jr., and Jimmy Stacker.
